The 2022-and-up GR86/BRZ platform has been known to experience engine failures due to excessive RTV found in the oil pickup preventing proper oil circulation. On top of that we have also seen video showing an oil pressure drop during long, sustained right-hand turns. Some of our own testing has shown a drop in oil pressure from the factory, coolant-cooled oil cooler at sustained high RPM — exactly the kind of conditions you see on a road course or auto-x.
Bill Lee has been quietly working through the problem on his own GR86 race car and the result is the Drift Office GR86 Oil System Upgrade Kit. Rather than a single magic bullet, the kit combines four proven parts that each address a different failure mode — windage, pickup blockage, sump uncovering under sustained G, and elevated oil temps on track.
“The test vehicle is my own car so I'm not afraid to push hard and find the limits. I went with the GReddy baffle because it controls oil slosh better than the factory plate without giving up sump volume, and the Killer-B pre-filter buys insurance against any leftover sealant or debris. The Accusump is the safety net — if pressure dips for any reason it picks up the load before bearings ever see it,” says Bill.

We could have stopped there but added an air-to-air oil cooler from Jackson Racing to keep the pressure up and the temps down. Post-installation the kit has shown positive benefits to oil temperature on the dyno and we're hoping to get more data throughout the race season.

What's in the kit
- Accusump Oil Accumulator
- GReddy Oil Pan Baffle Panel
- Killer-B Oil Pickup Pre-Filter
- Jackson Racing Air-to-Air Oil Cooler
